How does RFID technology lead the digital transformation of the tire industry?

Abstract: With the rapid development of RFID technology and the implantation of RFID tags into tires by major tire manufacturers such as Michelin, the collection and utilization of tire data has become more efficient and reliable.
Keywords: RFID technology

In the past, data collection and input in the tire maintenance process mainly relied on manual operations, which was not only time-consuming and labor-intensive, but also had the risk of data input errors. However, with the rapid development of RFID technology and the implantation of RFID Tire tags into tires by major tire manufacturers such as Michelin, the collection and utilization of tire data has become more efficient and reliable.企业微信截图_17337301016000企业微信截图_17337288947929

RFID technology helps Giti Tire achieve full life cycle management

Recently, Giti Tire is improving its European truck and bus (TBR) series to embed RFID electronic tags to achieve seamless monitoring of the entire tire life cycle. These RFID electronic tags will promote better communication and data sharing among stakeholders. This move represents an important step forward in the tire industry towards digitalization, sustainability and innovation.企业微信截图_17337288865131

Giti Tire has begun embedding RFID electronic tags into its European truck and bus (TBR) series, marking a key moment in tire life cycle management. These RFID tags will be embedded in the tire sidewalls, providing a unique identification for each tire and creating a connected information ecosystem accessible to all relevant stakeholders.

With RFID tags, data from manufacturing, logistics, fleet management, retreading and scrapping processes will be standardized and streamlined. By embedding RFID tags, Giti Tire aims to eliminate inefficiencies caused by outdated manual processes and human errors. Palummo, senior engineer at Giti Tire, said: “Digitalization is the catalyst for the future development of the tire industry, and the ability to track and share information is key to ensuring circularity and compliance with an automated and sustainable environment.”

The first Giti tires equipped with RFID tags include the Giti GSR237EVO and Giti GDR675EVO, two Combi Road products designed to improve the rolling resistance coefficient (RRC). In the mixed service series, the Giti GDM687 drive tire and Giti GAM838 steering tire, scheduled to be released in early 2025, will also adopt this technology.

Italian company Fasep releases wheel balancer with integrated RFID

Recently, Italian tire rotation service equipment company Fasep released the first wheel balancer with integrated RFID (radio frequency identification) tag reading system – V788 balancer. This breakthrough technology is expected to bring unprecedented convenience and accuracy to tire identification, management and service.

The V788 balancer realizes instant access to tire data and instant contact with operators by automatically identifying tires with UHF RFID tags. When the tire is installed on the balancer, the system automatically identifies and displays detailed information about the tire, such as brand, model, size and diameter. This information not only helps operators to quickly and accurately adjust tire settings and ensure that the tire is properly balanced before being installed on the car, but also provides the possibility of digital recording of tire services.

In addition, the V788 balancer with integrated RFID technology also helps to combat counterfeit tires. Since counterfeit tires usually do not have RFID electronic tags or the tag ID does not match the tire itself, RFID technology can easily identify counterfeit tires and protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers.
